Joel Embiid is the 2023 NBA MVP!
Joel Embiid has been named the NBA's Most Valuable Player of the 2022-23 season.
Philadelphia will now have three players in franchise history to win the NBA's regular season MVP Award. Hall of Famers Allen Iverson (2000-01) and Charles Barkley (1989-90 and 1992-93) earned the honor before Embiid.
Embiid, 29, averaged 31.4 points, 12.7 rebounds, and 4.4 assists per game this season for the Sixers.
He led the NBA in scoring and was second in rebounding.
Embiid also helped the Sixers finish with the best record in the Eastern Conference (53-29).
He received 881 first-place votes from a global panel of 100 sportswriters and broadcasters.
Denver Nuggets center Nikola Jokic finished second in the voting, followed by Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo.
