Gwen Walz: Educator, Advocate, and First Lady of Minnesota
Early Life and Career
Gwen Walz, the wife of Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, has built a distinguished career as an educator and advocate. Born and raised in Minnesota, she earned her bachelor's degree in elementary education from the University of Minnesota Duluth and a master's degree in language and literacy from the University of St. Thomas. Gwen began her teaching career in 1985, working for over two decades as an elementary school teacher in the Mankato Area Public Schools.
First Lady of Minnesota
In 2018, when her husband was elected Governor, Gwen Walz became the First Lady of Minnesota. She has played an active role in supporting her husband's agenda and advocating for issues close to her heart, such as education, mental health, and early childhood development. Gwen has also worked to promote literacy and STEM education through her First Lady's Reading Club and STEM Mentorship Program.
